GYPSEA Swlmsult colection by photographer Scott Bauer & Designer Emma Jones
Few individuals have staying power like Scott Bauer and in an industry where anyone with a camera can class themselves as a photographer. Scott has chronicied the world of surfing professionally for the past 16 years. Internationaliy published, it is not hard after one viewing
to understand why he, and his images are so highly regarded in the industry. “i Iearned photography in the days of him, it’s crazy how far everything has come since then and acceierating faster and faster into the digital age’ says Scott.
It seems a natural progression then, that Bauer’s images would transcend photography and become the inspiration for a truly unique swimwear collaboration. Working intensively with designer Emma Jones, Gypsea Swimwear was born. A range conceived on North Western Australia’s coasline; Bauer’s original photographic muse. Scott explains that it’s difficult to bypass the picturesque view of the North Western Australian Coastline and not feel inspired by the beauty of nature.
“The ocean is a huge part of my ile and to mix that with my love of photography is truly awesome” Scott describes.
The word Gypsea best describes Bauer’s life as a surf photographer, roarning the world looking for the perfect breaking wave. “Nature has been the main inspiration for Gypsea for sure” says Scott. “I’here’s so many amazing things to draw inspiration from in nature, I particularly like
the flowing natural lines that you see in nature and the amazing colours. I think people appreciate it a lot more when things are not made up as such like a random pattern or graphic. You’ve drawn your inspiration from something living and fiawing through photography and applied to the suits, it’s very real.”
With its Australian roots, graphic printed designs and inherent “surf culture cool”, Gypsea is fast
becoming a cult favorite swimwear brand like Scott’s enduring photographs.
